Alternative Fuel Studies
Experiments were performed to establish the spray and ignition characteristics of dimethyl ether (DME)-dieselfuel mixed fuel injected by an I.D.I. Diesel injector into a high-pressure vessel. The results clarified the differences between the mixed and a conventional Diesel fuel in the spray characteristics such as spray tip penetration, spray angle. A very wide spray angle was observed for the mixed fuel as compared with the conventional Diesel fuel, especially under a low ambient pressure.

Diesel Combustion Studies
The single cycle spray combustion machine with a swirl chamber was used to clarify the characteristics of combustion and an exhaust smoke concentration, installed with an air cell. The results clarified the differences between the swirl chamber with air cell and a swirl chamber without air cell in the combustion characteristics such as heat releas ratio, ignition delay and maximum cylinder pressure. When much amount of injection volume was injected, a low smoke concentration was observed for the air cell. The comparatively low swirl chamber pressure, a comparatively high heat release ratio and a comparatively long ignition delay was observed in the combustion process for the air cell.
